How to Cut and Deseed a Pumpkin
Pumpkins are mostly large, so making sure you have the right tools is important.
- Use a large, sharp knife.
- Ensure the pumpkin is on a steady work surface and place on its bottom (opposite the stem side).
- Most important step is to not and try and cut through the stem. This is the hardest part of the pumpkin.
- When cutting for cooking, once the knife is in, move down toward the cutting board. Pull the knife out and turn the pumpkin away from you like a wheel. Repeat this step until the pumpkin is cut into two halves.
- Use a spoon to deseed the pumpkin.
- Scrape down the sides and remove the seeds and other membrane parts.
How Long Do Pumpkins Last?
- Pumpkins can keep for two to three months if you store them in a cool and dry place.
- Once a pumpkin has been cut up, it can last 4-5 days in the fridge.
- Carved Jack-o-Lanterns last from 3-7 days at room temperature and 7-14 days outside
